John Kellerman's obituary was printed in the Ashland News on 26 Feb 1901:
Died Last Night
The Death of John Kellerman Occurred Very Unexpectedly Last Night.
Another Ashland citizen has succumbed to the fever. John Kellerman, the manager of the Kellerman Mercantile company died at 1:30 o'clock this morning after an illness that lasted 6 weeks. During the past three days Mr. Kellerman was entirely devoid of fever and the reports from his bedside were to the effect that the critical point of the disease was decidedly past. The staunchest kind of hopes were entertained for his ultimate recovery and up till late last evening the outcome of his case was most promising. At about 10:30 last night the veins of the legs began to swell rapidly, the enlargement being the subsequent effect of inflammation of those vessels. A blood clot entered the lungs and heart about 1:30 this morning, obstructing the natural flow of blood and producing death.
Mr. Kellerman breathed his last in the presence of his wife and two children, his sister Miss Tecla Kellerman of Green Bay, his brother-in-law Jas Fitzgerald of Marinette, his nurse Wm Brisley and the five physicians who had been called in for consultation.
     J. H. Kellerman was born at watertown, Wis., thirty-three yeas ago. In 1890 he went to Marinette, Wis., where he married Miss Anna Fitzgerald of that city. Eight years ago he entered the employ of Larson & Co. of Green Bay, went to Ironwood, Mich., to open a commission business. His residence at Ironwood lasted but six months when he transferred to Duluth for a similar duration of residence and then sent to Ashland, in which city he has since made his home. About a year and a half ago he commenced traveling for Franklin McVeigh grocery company of Chicago which position he held until late August when he resigned to accept the management of the Kellerman Mercantile Co.
Mr. Kellerman was insured in the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin for $2000 and carried another policy in the Mutual Life Insurance Co. for $2000 another chunk of insurance amounting to $1000 was carried in some unknown society.
Three children, Ralph, age 10 years, Elmer, age 7 years and Katharine, age 5 months, his sorrowing wife and his sister Miss Tecla Kellermann are the Ashland relatives who survived the deceased. Seven brothers and sisters and his aged father are residents of Watertown. The Watertown relatives were notified by wire this morning of the sad fate of Mr. Kellermann and the father wired back that he would come to Ashland tomorrow morning to attend the funeral.
The funeral arrangements are just now being made but the time but the time of burial has yet to be decided upon.
Mr. Kellerman was a member of the Elks, the C. K. of W. and U. C. T. The last society is composed wholly of traveling salesmen, who are insured against accidents.
The deceased had just got settled into a good lucrative position to which his business traits were especially well adapted and which held forth to him a bright prosperous future.
Mr. Kellerman was well known through all of Northern Wisconsin and has a very large circle of friends and acquaintances who will receive the news of his death with sorrow.
The funeral will probably be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock though this has not definitely been decided upon.4
